The school holidays are upon us, and many parents are wondering how to keep their children busy and engaged over the coming weeks. Many nursery schools and local businesses are offering holiday programmes.
Here’s a roundup of some of the most exciting that we’ve come across.
Alexandria Cricket Academy

Do you have a cricket lover in your household? Then this one could be great for your boys or girls. There’s an Action Cricket Holiday camp taking place at Northside Primary School from 14-18 August. French Holiday Program for Kids & Teens
Alliance Francaise
Our favourite French centre is offering three weeks of French holiday camp for children 7-14 years of age. Each week there will be songs, films, games and more. P690 per week. To book call +267 395 1650.
A-Lit Villa
Extension 9 opposite Avani Hotel
A-LIT is offering a holiday camp where children can take part in activities such as gardening, baking and storytelling. Best of all they provide lunch and snacks so you don’t have to. More info is available on Facebook.
Bala After School
Baobab School, Phase 2
Bala is offering an educational Holiday School from 08:00 – 12:30. Students will practice their phonics, build reading confidence & fluency, and work towards mastering writing. Care After School
Sorry… we don’t know much about this one. But the flyer seems compelling. Apparently it’s for preschool to primary aged children. We’d love to see our little ones learning more life skills over the holidays. If anyone has feedback about it please let us know!

Cinderella is known for having great outdoor play spaces. Though we don’t have details on specific activities, we would expect them to be offering their usual range of fun and educational activities for kids. Northside Primary School
Dibini’s holiday programme is one of the best around! Comprised of arts & crafts, games, sports, reading stories and of course dance, every child that goes enjoys the playtime with friends. Hazellwood Arts & Crafts Store

Okay so this isn’t a holiday programme in the regular sense, but Hazellwood is offering a series of workshops for older children (8+) over the school holiday break. Booking is essential; costs vary depending on the class and they begin at 09:30.

Jack and Jill Nursery School
Phase 2
Iris, Brittney, and the team at Jack and Jill will be offering a holiday program for 3 of the 4 weeks (they’re closed the first week for school enhancements). Except arts & crafts, baking, fine motor, gross motor, and messy play activities each day. The cost is P100 per day, which will keep your preschoolers busy from 08:00 – 13:00.

Kindermusik with Zelna
SensoBaby in Maru-A-Pula
Zelna is offering a toddler holiday camp for anyone interested in playing with music. It runs on Thursdays for three weeks starting 24 August. Learn to Ride Bicycle Program
OT 4 Kidz, Village
This is such an awesome idea! Children will be supported by an Occupational Therapist to learn a graded program on how to ride a bike. P1200 per child; 4-8 September; for children aged 5-9. Register by contacting Rose at 391 8812.
Mai’s Aquatic Centre
Block 7
The popular Mai’s Aquatic Centre is offering 5 days of swimming fun at their heated indoor pool. It won’t all be in the pool; some activities will also be outside.

- 21-25 August from 09:30 – 12:00 for children aged 6+
- P450 per child

OT 4 Kidz Holiday Program

It’s a bit pricier than other programs, but we’ve heard great things about the OT 4 Kidz holiday camps. Children are exposed to a wide variety of age-appropriate developmental play supervised by an Occupational Therapist. Expect lots of activities to help with gross and fine motor skills, cognitive development, and social growth. Register by contacting Rose at 391 8812.

Peo Mela
Phakalane
Peo Mela Nursery School in Phakalane will be hosting holiday school for the first 2 weeks of holiday. It’s P50 per day from 07:30am – 12:30pm and kids from all schools are welcome, no need to book.
