Summer time is in full swing. With temperatures soaring and children hot and exhausted by mid-afternoon, you may be wondering where you can find a refreshing, frozen treat to cool them down. I’ve rounded up a list of the best places in Gabs for ice cream and will rate them based on my preference for flavours and toppings, but feel free to try them all out and give them your own rating system!
Gelato Firenze ***
This one is a winner! Gelato is an Italian style ice cream made with milk, sugar and cream and has a smooth, silky rich flavour. Gelato Firenze is serving up artisan style flavor at Masa Centre. We recently tried the ‘Mister Nico’ (peanut butter and chocolate) flavour as well as the Limetta and Hazelnut flavours. They were all delicious and my kids adored them! I love the fact that they are open until 10 PM, for that date-night-after-dinner-sweet-treat. There are some toppings available. – Masa Centre
Marcel’s Frozen Yoghurt ***
Marcel’s does a lovely gourmet frozen yoghurt. You can now feel great about that frozen indulgence because yoghurt is full of probiotic cultures (bacteria which is good for ‘gut health’) and they use natural flavours! Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and English toffee are usually available, with several rotational flavours to make things exciting. –Airport Junction
Milky Lane **
Milky Lane is probably familiar to most Gaborone residents, but it is worth mentioning that they offer balloons to children. Serving up a vanilla ice cream soft-serve as well as some scoop-able artisanal flavours, this is one of my children’s favorite spots! They enjoy choosing the sprinkles, the chocolate or caramel dips for their cones. –Riverwalk or Game City
Sanitas Nursery & Tea Garden ***
Before Gelato Firenze and Marcel’s arrived on the scene in Gaborone, this was the only artisan ice cream in town. Although the Tea Garden is closed on Mondays, they’re serving up homemade Gelato the other 6 days of the week! It might be a little out of the way to stop just for ice cream, but it is worth a visit to this oasis! With plenty of shade, a playground, and a delicious menu including cold, homemade lemonade, it is definitely a spot worth visiting to cool down during these hot summer days! – Near Fairgrounds
Steers, KFC, Chicken Licken, Debonairs *
If you’re in a hurry or already eating lunch or dinner out at one of these places, then go ahead and grab a no-frills cone or cup of the typical standard frozen “nice cream” soft-serve. Usually the only flavour available is vanilla, but sometimes you might find a chocolate or caramel dip (Steers). It does the trick for cooling you down! Tip: The KFC at Airport Junction serves up vanilla cones from the drive-thru! You don’t even have to leave your car to grab a quick, refreshing frozen treat! –Various Locations around Gaborone
