Near the end of 2017, I blogged about my adventures while shopping off the beaten path in Gaborone. The blog turned out to be a fantastic resource for new arrivals and for those who don’t tend to venture away from the main shopping centres in town. So I thought I would share with you several more places for Gaborone shopping when looking for a good deal!
Bahumi Centre Shops (near Oriental plaza – Block 3)
You’ll find this gem located off Ramakukane Rd (the road where the car park entrance is for Sefalana Hyper). Pass the Sefalana on your left and just after the 3rd road on your right you’ll arrive at the Bahumi Centre. There are several shops in this complex. I usually stop in first to check out the amazing deals on all things plastic. On the corner, Mohumi Trading Furniture Shop have buckets, hampers, rubbish bins, tables/chairs and lots more. I recently bought 4 large dust bins to create a recycling centre in my home, and they were a mere P80 each! The big box retailers often can’t compete with that price!
After you browse in that store, you might want to head a couple doors down to the Triple Beez Group. They sell trophies, diaries, pens, medals, corporate gifts. There’s even table tennis, badminton and other exercise/sporting goods. They had a nice selection of kids’ scooters, hula hoops as well!
The best store, in my opinion in that complex is the Bahumi Trading store. It’s huge with several rooms to explore. They’ve cookware, very affordable plates, glasses and cutlery, furniture, housewares and party supplies. It was all much more affordable than your big box retail stores.
EGW Warehouse (Block 3 Industrial)
Across the street from Bahumi Trading (also across from Pie City on Mabeleapodi Rd) you’ll find E.G.W. Warehouse. This warehouse has home and office furniture. It has especially nice dining furniture and bunk bed selection for kids. They also sell t-shirts you can get printed up with whatever design you’d like. The prices on the dining tables seemed reasonable and there were plenty of them to choose from.
Power Wholesalers (Block 3 Industrial)
Further down Mabelapodi Rd (heading toward Kubu Rd), you’ll find Power Wholesalers. This store is open to the public, but you will need to buy a minimum quantity of 6 for the item you want. The prices are discounted to around 50% of what you’d find in a retail shops. This store would be great for parent or friend groups who pool money to split the cost of buying 6 of one item. With cold and flu season around the corner, you and your closest friends may want to buy 6 of the humidifiers and divvy them up among households. Other items of note that I found here: garden pots, kids costumes & party supplies, face paint sticks, gift bags, games, office supplies, and more! I know many of the items I’ve mentioned are sometimes hard to come by in Gaborone, so it is a must-stop shop.

Chinese Supermarket inside
Chinese/Asian Grocery (Block 3 Industrial)
Again on Mabeleapodi Road, opposite of Power Wholesalers, you’ll see the Nice Place Bazaar China Wholesale City. There’re many stores with furniture and housewares to explore here. My favorite hidden gem in this complex is the Hwaxia Enterprises grocery store. Some things on offer are spices, produce, frozen dumplings, buns and wonton wrappers. It’s an amazing little Chinese grocery shop. I found that the soy sauce and black bean/chili sauce more affordable than the supermarket! I love the frozen dumplings too! They make for a quick meal and the kids gobble them up for dinner with some stir-fried broccoli.
These shops are my latest favourite places to find you a good deal. In my last post I gave the best spots to get vegetables and spices at cheaper prices with more variety. You can find those gems here. I would love to hear about your best shops in Gaborone, please leave a comment and let me know. Happy shopping.
