The school holidays might be long, but the days will fly by if you’ve got engaging activities planned for you and your little ones. Here’s a round-up of ideas that you and your family can do in the countdown to Christmas.
Tuesday December 18: Build a Snowman
On these hot summer days, sometimes it’s nice to conjure up a bit of cold. Keep the kids busy while you make snowmen. Draw out the outline of a snowman on white paper and let the kids make faces as they dress and decorate their snowmen. Buttons and glue, stickers, or even just crayons is all you need to let them show off their creative side.
Wednesday December 19: Finish your Christmas Shopping
Locally-owned toy shop Edutoys has been running a “12 days of Christmas” special, with different sales each day. Discounts have included 10% off all music instruments, 10% off all lego, and more. Follow their Facebook page to learn about the daily deals.
Thursday December 20: Watch the Grinch
The story of how The Grinch Stole Christmas is a Dr Seuss classic. This new animated version is a perfect computer-animated holiday film for kids of all ages who love bright, swirling colours. This is the last day to catch The Grinch in local cinemas.
Friday December 21: See the Christmas Story Remix
Over the past weeks, Kingdomcity Gaborone has done the Christmas Story Remix in various areas around Gaborone! This Friday they’re hosting the final Christmas Story Remix for the year at Kingdomcity in Broadhurst Industrial. If you have seen it already, this is your chance to invite everyone you know to come along and enjoy! If you haven’t seen it already, don’t miss out! Everyone is welcome.
Saturday December 22: Summer Xpressions 2018
Brace yourself for Summer Xpressions 2018: Music-Picnic-Festive. This event will take place at Green Fingers Gardens, Taung Ramotswa. While you might not want to keep the children out to 3am, the event does start mid-day and will have a jumping castle, clowns and games for kids. Tickets available in advance through Webtickets.
Sunday December 23: Be a Kindness Elf
As an antidote to the ‘Elf on the Shelf’ Craze, the Kindness Elves were created to encourage families to engage in random acts of kindness and instil the value of kindness in your children. Consider being a Kindness Elf today and just do something special and random for someone else.
Monday December 24: Picnic with the Monkeys
Why not start a new local tradition and spend Christmas Eve with the animals? The Gaborone Game Reserve reopened a couple of months back. There’s no shortage of fun when you take the children for a game drive and picnic in the park. Remember though… the monkeys can be nuts! Don’t get too close and make sure to protect your food and close your car windows. You don’t need to book to visit it on Monday, but you do need to pre-book if you decide to go on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
