I was going through my Instagram and Facebook pages recently and I saw people posting all this awesome food from local restaurants. They seem affordable too! Some of the people we follow on social media we aren’t actually that close to us. So sending that message to say, “Hey, where is this place?” can be a little daunting.
If you’re anything like me and love discovering hidden gems, sometimes all you need is “that” friend. You know, the friend that knows where all the good places are. I’ve decided to be that friend and give you a tour of some (I’m sure there’s more) of our hidden food gems around Gaborone.
On top of that, we have just come out of lockdown, this is the best time to support a local business. Feel free to join in and let me know is any have been missed.
Hometown Pizza with Chef Tshepo M
Location: Kumakwane

This is a highly recommended place if you’re looking for a new pizza experience. Chef Tshepo cooks his pizzas with firewood. Giving them a unique natural flavour. They’re based in Kumakwane, good for an afternoon getaway
The Township Square
Location: Phalakane opposite Old Spar

Hidden in Phakalane, opposite Spar lies pretty much the best braai’d meat in town. They serve chargrilled beef, pork and boerewors smothered in their in house basting. Great portions at affordable prices.
The Test Kitchen Cafe
Location: Broadhurst

These guys are located in Broadhurst, right opposite Broadhurst Primary School. They have a great fusion of traditional and modern food and awesome daily lunch special for only P50. It’s worth checking out.
Chilli Bar
Location: Matebeleng Village, next to Oodi

From bogobe jwa lerotse to koko ya Setswana and more, this restaurant is all about delicious traditional cuisine. They’re also well known for awesome vibes, good for visiting with a bunch of friends. If you’re lucky, you might be able to catch some live music.
Mmantlo Goodies

Cheesy chicken wraps and fries. Mmantlo Goodies is well known for these. If you’re a lover of all things cheese or have just had a craving for a good ol’ cheeseburger and fries, make sure you order and give them a try.
Grill Vibes Restaurant

The new restaurant in town. Grill Vibes is located in Mogoditshane and they offer a range of traditional hearty meals and braai plates.
Cups And Pups
Location: Mobile

Cups and Pups is a local coffee plug owned by Botswana youth. The coffee and service are just as awesome as the name cause it’s “Made With Puppy Love.” It Might not be food, but it definitely has a local twist. Worth a mention and a try.
Agang’s Dessert Corner

What’s a meal without dessert? Perhaps you’ve been looking for something sweet instead. Agang’s Dessert corner is the plug, with all kinds of dessert available.
