We’re officially in the second quarter of the year, and halfway through 2021. This deserves a whoop and a holler to all you mamas for making it this far with your sanity in check!
Since I wrote How To Beat Burnout in 2021: A Book, A Planner & A Community of Friends there are a couple more tools I’ve discovered that have helped to keep my mental, emotional and physical well-being in check.
Here are a handful of them.
Solo Dates
Making time for yourself can be a little tricky, but it definitely needs to be a priority if we’re going to beat burnout. Solo dates are a great way to fill your soul time tank so you can be the best mum, wife, sister, friends, boss you need to be. There are so many things that can be done in Gaborone for solo dates, or with a friend or two.
1. Beauty Date
House of Joss
Have you ever looked at your perfectly manicured nails and suddenly felt happy? Yup, me too. Add a scenic view and amazing service and you get a House of Joss experience. House of Joss has many surprises in store, from their nail bar to their palatable food. This is also an amazing bed and breakfast for a staycation.
AesthetiQue
This is a hidden gem we’re happy to have found nestled away in Setlhoa Park. AethetiQue is the go-to place for all your medical aesthetics needs, to facial peels, microneedling and more. Give them a ring to find about their extensive beauty services.
2. Spa Date
Nothing screams relaxation, recharge and beating burnout like a date to the spa. There are gems spread across the city that’ll have you relaxed in no time.
Mosha Wellness Spa
Enjoy “a bush break in the city” at the award-winning spa, Mosha. If you love a getaway to the safari, this experience awaits you in the heart of the city. Mosha is located at the AVANI Gaborone Resort and Casino. Find out more about their services here.
Camelot Spa
Camelot spa is a treat for all your senses. The aesthetics of the modern, elegant and stylish design meets all the treasures that Africa has to offer. Find this spa at the Grand Palm, for a range of treatments and therapies to de-stress, re-energise and transform your body, mind, and soul into a phase of rejuvenation and wellness.
Give them a call to book your next appointment.
3. Movement Date
Honeycomb Hub
I digress, my favourite workout studio is found the Honeycomb Hub. For a number of reasons. First being Tiny Town where your kids can play safely, while you’re upstairs working out, or sing them up for an afternoon activity. Second is while you cool down from your HIIT or Fit Mama workout, you can grab a cuppa and treat to read a book to your child. And lastly, the staff is amazing. Wholesome convenience and soul time under one roof. If you know of a place that’s better, please, leave a comment below.
4. Journaling date
I did not keep a diary growing up, but in my adult years journaling has become one a mindfulness ritual that helps me keep a clearer mind, calmer emotions and as of recent, welcome surprises of how well I am doing in kicking my goals and my inner growth and health altogether.
There are a couple of places I find are quiet enough and tick all my soul-delicacies needs. A journal and a full stomach are just what you need when things get overwhleming.
The 4th Unit Cafe
The newest cafe in Phakalane has already become a favourite spot. The open space and minimalistic decor make it relaxing enough for an early morning journal date.

Blue Tree Cafe
Bluetree has me going back for their cakes! The personable service and the homemade, rustic menu are just what I need for a good journal date. The golf course is both scenic and will keep the rest of your family entertained while you recharge. I always love seeing families use this place to recharge, alone or together. I recently made an unexpected connection with a mum who was there for her solo date.
These are but a handful of solo date ideas. Or if you’re an extrovert and recharge with company, places you can go with friends for good soul time. I recently made an unexpected connection with a mum who was there for her solo date.
Of course, there are many more solo date ideas and locations to help beat burnout, all over Botswana, we’d love to hear about them in the comments below.
