We recently had a chat with a mum of two and a visual artist and teacher, Rosy. She reminded us that dreams don’t end when one becomes a wife or mum.
The chat left us inspired to dust off our old dreams and start to create. You never know what needs your dreams will meet or the problems they will solve.

Tell us more about Rosy
I’m married to an amazing husband and we’re parents to two very creative boys aged 3 and 5.
I enjoy spending my days off creating fun activities for my boys at home. Some of these include painting, making our own paint and glue, making our own playdough, and sensory play. I use household items like beans, spaghetti, food coloring and more.
What can you tell us about Lora Arts and Crafts?
Lora Arts and Crafts is a new addition to the Lora Arts organization.
The organisation has been supporting Visual arts projects that embrace the use of technology.
Lora means “dream” in Setswana. The name was inspired by our desire to continue to dream and to strive to achieve them without ever giving up. The new addition of kids’ arts and crafts will focus on children’s creative development through play.
My boys inspired these as they constantly ask me to make them playdough. Eventually, with all the practice, I have become good at it.
I’ve had the idea of homemade play dough for some time, but I have not had the time to make it a business until recently when my work schedule was changed to part-time. The change was very welcome as I’d been wanting to spend more time focusing on my own creative projects – this is only one of the many – so I believe my prayer was answered.
What kind of arts and crafts do you make?

The arts and crafts kits are intended to help parents like myself keep their kids busy and creative, especially during weekends and school holidays.
The playdough kits are crafted for children between the ages of 2 and 7. However, older siblings can also enjoy spending time making crafts with the little ones.
One adult told me they bought the kits for their friend’s kids who were visiting and after smelling the dough they ended up using it as a stress ball, ha!
We hope to encourage parents with busy schedules to sit and play with their children in order to spend more time with them. We love seeing our kids exploring their senses through creative play, and we also sometimes just want to keep them busy when we are tired and want to sit and enjoy a cup of tea without hearing them screaming or dismantling the house…
What do you have available in your kits?

At the moment we are promoting our sensory playdough kits.
These are scented or unscented playdough made using natural ingredients and preservatives like salt or citric acid. This gives us peace of mind in case the little ones decide to give it a taste, though it smells good it does not taste yummy at all. We still encourage parents to be cautious with young kids though.
The kits also include little craft supplies like buttons, beads, gems, glitter, and figurines, that they can use creatively with their playdough. These can be customized to every child’s likes and preferences or themes for parties.
Where do you see Lora Arts & Crafts in the next few years?
The dream is to expand and provide more custom-made activities for older kids. Eventually, we want to see children explore creativity through the use of technology.
In the future, we’d also like to host creative artistic parties and provide these services in the comfort of your own homes.
Thanks, Rosy, for the inspiration to dust off our dreams and bring them to life. Follow Lora Arts and Crafts on Facebook and Instagram.
