At Jack & Jill Nursery School, we provide a safe, creative, and inspiring environment where every child is loved and valued. As an English Medium school, we focus on play-based and theme-based learning for children aged 1 to 5. Our goal is to nurture curious, confident, and independent learners, supporting their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. We embrace each child’s individuality and strive to help them reach their full potential in a positive, encouraging space.

Curriculum

At Jack & Jill, we offer a rich, child-centered curriculum designed to nurture curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. Our unique, in-house curriculum blends several academic foundations with play-based learning, ensuring that each child develops holistically in a warm, caring environment. Through continuous staff training and a warm teaching environment, we provide an education that grows with your child, supporting them every step of the way.

Our History

Jack & Jill Preschool has been a cherished part of the Gaborone community since its establishment in 1981. It has been owner-run and managed by our current headmistress, Iris Riggs, since 1990. Under her leadership, the preschool has grown into the flourishing school it is today, building a strong reputation for quality education and a nurturing environment. Over the years, we’ve evolved alongside the community, while maintaining our high standards of care, innovation in education, and dedication to each child’s development.

Our Teachers

At Jack & Jill Preschool, we are incredibly proud of our team of dedicated, qualified, and first-aid trained teachers. Their commitment to nurturing each child’s growth, coupled with their continuous upskilling and training, ensures a high standard of care and education in every classroom. We believe that consistency is key in early childhood education, which is why we take great pride in having a very low staff turnover.

With a student-teacher ratio of 5:1 in our younger classes and 10:1 in the older classes, we provide personalized attention that supports each child’s individual needs. Our teachers foster strong bonds with the children, creating a warm and encouraging environment that inspires confidence and independence.

Bush Babies Class – Group 1

In the Bush Babies class, our youngest learners are given the space to explore and learn at their own pace through hands-on, sensory-based activities. This nurturing environment fosters early development through play, focusing on building fine and gross motor skills, communication, and social interactions, all while ensuring they feel safe and supported.

Bouncing Bunnies Class – Group 2

In the lively Bouncing Bunnies class, play continues to be central, but we start introducing more structured group activities. This stage focuses on developmental milestones such as communication, potty training, and fine motor skills. Children begin to engage in small group learning, balancing playful exploration with gentle guidance to promote learning and development.

Busy Bees Class – Group 3

The Busy Bees class is a dynamic mix of curiosity, independence, and creativity. These 3-year-olds are full of energy, and each day is an adventure in learning. We enhance their communication skills through drama, circle time, and singing, while also encouraging independence in problem-solving, decision-making, and routine-building. Messy play remains a key part of our learning approach, as children continue to grow in confidence and capability.

Dancing Ducklings Class – Group 4

Dancing Ducklings are brimming with curiosity and confidence, ready for more challenges. We focus on extensive gross motor activities every day and begin our “School Readiness Program”, which will continue into Group 5.

Clever Cats Class – Group 5

In the Clever Cats class, we are fully focused on preparing children for ‘Big School.’ This year, we dedicate our efforts to school readiness, helping each child develop the skills and confidence they need for their upcoming school assessments. Our goal is to ensure that every child leaves Jack & Jill feeling excited and prepared for the next step in their educational journey.
