At Jack and Jill, we love to learn and learn to love. We strive to be an inspirational, creative and safe space for children. At our nursery, every little being is loved and valued. We want our children to develop to their full potential. We are an English Medium Pre-School that focuses on play and theme based learning.
Jack and Jill was established in 1981 and we have been owner run and managed by our current headmistress Iris Riggs since 1990. She has developed it to the flourishing school it is today.
Our curriculum is a mixture of Cambridge PYP, Learn though play and Montessori. As well as the governmental requirements.
Group 1: The Bush Babies
In the beginning, we have the Bush Babies. They strongly believe in play-based learning. At this foundation stage, it’s where children sort and make sense of their social worlds. They also actively engage with people, objects, and representations, which includes a lot of sensory play.
Group 2: The Bouncing Bunnies
With the bouncy 2-year-olds, we still do most of our learning through play but start to become a little more formal. We begin to work in little groups.
Group 3: Busy Bees
In the Busy Bees class, the 3-year-old is a fun jumble of creativity, stubbornness, intelligence, independence, and laughter. Every day is an adventure. They’re communicating with more ease now and we continue to develop this with drama, circle time and singing.
Group 4: Dancing Ducklings
This age group is full of curiosity and gaining a lot of confidence in all their developments. Physically they can now throw, catch and kick a ball, climb well, ride a tricycle, run and confidently hop on 1 foot. We challenge the Dancing Ducklings with gross motor activities every day.
Group 5: Clever Cats
It’s this year we prepare for our school readiness assessment. We also use theme-based units which provide a vehicle for teaching a range of skills and content. We do this by integrating curriculum areas around a topics

The student teacher ratio is 1 teacher to 10 children with the older children and 1 to 5 for the younger children.
Yes we do potty training. We believe in teamwork so parents need follow through at home too. Your child needs to be ready, this includes speech and physical readiness.
We take children from the age of 2. However this can depend on the individual child’s emotional and social development.
To develop social and emotional skills we like to take children out of the school environment. They are always fun and educational excursions.
We visit places like the Fire Station, the Museum, Santitas, Bounceland, Bokaa Bush Camp, Blue Tree Golf Club for golf and fishing, the Airport, the BSPCA, the Traffic Department and Lily’s Petting Farm.
They are not compulsory and cost between P100 and P150 depending on where we are going. We hire a big bus to transport all of the children and supply a mid-morning snack on those days.
