I want to say Mother’s Day is going to be the same this year. It probably won’t. In my house, it’ll be different from our usual day. I won’t get my normal Orchid as flowers deemed non-essential in Botswana. Yes, I’m a bit sad. I also won’t get a yummy brunch out in a nice restaurant.
However, Dads, husbands and kids this is what I would love this Sunday and so I think your wife will to. (And yes if someone could send this to my hubby that would be great.)
Homemade Anything
As a Mum, I love what my kid makes and he’s no Leonardo Da Vinci. But anything homemade is special, especially when my husband takes the time to help our kids make said item. So get out those coloured pens, glitter and get loving that Mama. This goes for Granny too. You’re never too old to make your Mum a card. If you can’t get it to her, send a photo on Whatsapp.
Breakfast In Bed
This is an oldie, but a goodie. Right now this would be amazing. A slow wake-up, my child and my hubby making breakfast leaving me to read my book. Or gently scrolling Instagram without a purpose. Then breakfast in bed. It’s the stuff of dreams.
What to Cook?
Anything yummy would do but the lockdown has increased the baking, cooking and eating in our house. We’ve come across some great food and the below recipe for pancakes (crepes) is a winner! It’s become a staple in our house. Dad’s you’re welcome.

Ingredients
100g plain flour
2 large eggs
300ml milk
1 tbsp sunflower or veg oil. (Plus a little extra for frying)
Method
- Put the flour, 2 eggs, milk, 1 tbsp sunflower and a pinch of salt into a bowl. Whisk into a smooth batter.
- Ideally, let it rest for 30 mins. But we normally aren’t that patient and go to straight to cooking.
- Put the pan on to medium heat and add a tiny bit of oil.
- Once the pan is hot, cook your pancakes for 1 min on each side. They should have that gorgeous golden colour. You can keep them warm in the oven just set your oven to the lowest temperature.
Serve with honey and lemon, or cinnamon and sugar, or chocolate sauce, or Nutella. Or….. yes, serve with anything! Easy right?
A Spa Morning
Ok, so I’m not expecting you Dad’s to get out there and start doing nail art unless of course, you can. Go you. However, a lovely massage is a total win. Add in a bath with bubbles run by you and trust me it’ll be magic. As much as Mother’s Day is about family it’s also a day a year just spoiling Mum. A bath without interruption is possibly Mother’s Day gold.
A Phone Call
Dads don’t forget to phone YOUR Mum. I’m sure you knew that one though.
Gifts- Buy Local
I know you can’t get to the shops with permit issues, and nothings really open so what about a gift for later? This is an unprecedented time and like everyone small businesses are being hit hard. So a gift now for later if a gift to business too. Have a look at The Local Slice BW, it’s a Facebook group dedicated to highlighting local businesses. If not, below are a few we love.
