Once you have kids, you soon discover that you really don’t need to look far for amusement. You’ll find it easily. You don’t have to look for it. It just happens, and there are lessons hidden in the funny moments.
Here are a few funny lessons I learned from my kids this year.
1. Do NOT Put Your Christmas Tree Up Early When You Have Toddlers
(Unless you can put it in a perfectly secure place where they can’t easily get to it).
Thankfully I didn’t because I fear my littlest. She’s very creative and loves chaos. Did I mention that she eats a lot of things that she shouldn’t?
I was speaking to one of my friends and she didn’t fare so well. Her youngest demolished the Christmas tree at her place. And she enlisted her big sister, and they ‘ate’ some of the baubles too! Needless to say, she keeps finding glitter everywhere around her house.
Ultimately, we still enjoy having a Christmas tree, we just make sure not to have it out too early.
2. Powder Situation
I never thought I’d beTHAT parent that has THAT child! Haha! She sure is special and I’ll love her always. But I am that parent, and my child found the powder bottle.
And… She came into the sitting room looking like a ghost! At first I laughed, her big sister also showed up with a bit of powder on her feet.
I stopped laughing when I went into the bedroom, and found powder all over the floor, and over the freshly washed laundry too! That’ll teach me not to have powder lying around. Lesson Learned.
3. Toilet Follows
Ever want an audience when you go to the toilet? Have children!
There is always someone following you to the toilet. Sometimes, they follow you in and sing! But if they don’t follow you, just know that when you’re in the toilet that’s when the fights happen too. Have fun!
4. Bedtime Singing
My toddler is so sweet, but we have a problem when it’s time to sleep.
She’ll take the time to sing. Like a baby solo, she goes it nursery rhyme mode or hums softly. Some days I’m impressed and laugh, and savour the quality time bonding. Other days I just want to sleep!
5. Bath Time Is Fun, Till You Wash Their Face And Hair!
My daughters love bath time; they play with their boats, buckets and other water toys in the bathtub. They especially love bubbles! When I put them in the bathtub, I become the World’s Best Mom instantly! They take this time to splash water around, giggle and play.
But, wait till I wash their face and hair… Then we end up in World War III. They’ll scream and cry, and end up spluttering and complaining. Nevertheless, I still have to wash every inch of their little bodies.
6. Browned Bananas
My children love bananas. After all, they are a baby-friendly fruit. Easy to peel and easy to eat. So as a parent I don’t really need to help them with it.
But my eldest doesn’t like to see even a little bit of it browned. Even if it’s just a spot, this is problematic to her and she’ll throw a major tantrum just for that. So I often have to remind her and explain that there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s still good for her.
If it were up to her, we would throw out the whole banana. But I refuse for my children to be that wasteful, so she relents and eats it after I cut off that small piece she doesn’t like.
7. Hide your Snacks!
Ever want to sneak in chocolate or your favourite snack in front of your children? Of course, you do! It happens to the best of us, but they watch you like a hawk.
Even when you think they are concentrating on something else, they can smell and sense things easily, especially things that they shouldn’t!
But one thing about kids is that; they will TEACH you to be CREATIVE! I am sure that you know what I mean.
I love them anyway because they are a piece of me. They’re my beautiful gifts and the most precious thing I have. I will never stop smiling when I’m with them, as I learn them. And they teach me several things about life.
