Last month Family Gems turned 1. We have officially been a website for over a year. Since our Birthday we have decided to ‘grow up’, spend the money, and have posters made. That way we’ll connect more parents to our site and to family friendly businesses. You would think it would be an easy task.
We went onto the internet to find the perfect photo. That was a fail. Yes we found photos of gorgeous families but none were quite right. They didn’t say family-friendly Botswana.
That’s when we reached out to you, the Family Gems community. Your response was amazing. There was so much love in each photo that got sent in.
We wanted to use so many of them. The problem was they were not the dimensions we needed or weren’t in a high enough resolution. That’s when it we realised we needed to have our own photos taken.
This snap decision was made this Tuesday. We contacted the photographer Gaone from Sinc Freelancer, who said he could do Thursday morning. Eek. Then our problem was where to get models at such short notice. Once again the fabulous Family Gems community came to our rescue. You are amazing!
This morning we were at the Blue Tree with four fabulous mothers and seven children. We had fun attempting to get the kids to look at the camera when the jungle gym was clearly more fun.
We also wanted a natural shot but with the kids smiling. Behind the camera occasionally one of us doing some very dodgy dancing to try get little ones to crack a smile. Apologies to anyone at Blue Tree. One particular two year old also thought Gaone was a playmate so he wanted to be on him, not photographed.
They say never work with children but we had fun. Who wouldn’t when you get to play, chat to mums and drink milkshakes?
