You’ve been training hard and eating clean, your health is on point and you got that banging body you deserve! That’s because you worked hard for it, but now the year is coming to a close and its festive time. This means it time for travelling, braai’s, parties and some lazy days at home; all the things that are anti-gains. However don’t worry I got a few tips that will help you have a great festive season. And of course also maintain the gains so you don’t start from scratch next year!
1.Gym
Don’t stop training but you can tone it down a little bit. You might be traveling or you want to bum out at home and be lazy so gym is not a main priority. So I suggest you alter your program to work around this. Find a simple but effective workout program that can work with your festive plans. If you don’t have access to gym it’s okay there are numerous body weight workout programs you can find online. You can find 30 minute workout routines if you don’t feel like spending too much time in the gym. Because I train 5-6 days a week (I’m a personal trainer) I tone it down during festive by training 3 days a week. I do full body workouts each time or I do stuff like swimming or hiking. It’s best to stay active even if it’s 20 minutes per day, the key is to remain consistent so you aren’t starting from zero when the new year starts.
2.Diet/Nutrition
Like gym its okay to tone it down a little bit when it comes to your diet. Lets not lie to ourselves, the festive season is the time for good food and no one wants to miss out on it. I say indulge, if you are off to a new country and want to try some of the local dishes I say go ahead but be smart about it. Have a light breakfast and save the calories for later during the day during the more fun meals like lunch and dinner. Try to keep some balance, at the times you can stick to a clean eating routine do so.
3.Get Enough Sleep
All the parties and celebrations are gonna mess with your sleeping patterns so try to get enough rest.
4. Plan Ahead
Include some time for a workout in your vacation itinerary. We plan almost every aspect of our trip so it won’t be too hard to make some space for some physical activity. Also google any gyms near where you are and what if you will be able to get a few day passes while you are there
Fitness is meant to enhance your quality of life not a chore that robs you of having fun so be sure to enjoy the festive season and stay fit at the same time. Hope these few tips gave ya’ll some help.
