August is a great month for me. The end of winter is so close you can almost touch it. There is also a lot going on. If you haven’t seen it yet, have a look at our roundup of Holiday Programmes in Gaborone. There are some of the usual favourites happening as well as some newbies.
The biggest news for August (yes we know we’re biased) is the new collaboration between New Capital Cinemas and us at Botswana Family Gems. Have a read below to find out more.

The Lion King: Baby-Friendly Cinema
Thursday the 1st of August
Acacia Mall
Price: A half-price matinee
Time 11 am – 2 pm
A BABY-FRIENDLY MOVIE THEATRE? YES, PLEASE!
We may love our DSTV and streaming Netflix, but nothing beats the big screen. It’s with a huge amount of excitement that we announce that New Capital Cinemas in partnership with Family Gems and SensoBaby is launching a Movies for Mummies program.
Join us for a baby-friendly showing of the year’s most anticipated film, The Lion King, on Thursday 1 August.
This is a no-stress chance for new moms, dads or grannies to escape the house arrest world of caring for a young baby.
- What makes it baby-friendly?
- The sound will be turned down a little, to make it safe for little ears.
- The lights will be up, so you won’t need to reach for your phone’s flashlight to feed your child.
- If your baby cries or you need to breastfeed, no problem.
- Or if you need to pace the aisles to comfort your little one, go for it.
Getting out to the cinema with an infant can be complicated. Getting The Lion King with a dozen other moms and dads is easy. Join us on Thursday 1 August!
Oh! And it’s even a half-price matinee, and there will be door prizes to be won!

Cuppa Love
