It’s officially cold in Gaborone. That’s obviously why the family-friendly events quieten down in July. We do have a few ideas that will hopefully tempt you out and about.
However, this month is also a great time to catch up on all those boring tasks like getting your kids to the dentist. Yes, we do have some great Dentists listed. We also wrote a post about learning what impacts a child’s dental development – and by monitoring it – you can help keep teeth healthy. So have a read of that and it should inspire you to book that appointment.
If heading to that Dentist is not your idea of a family friendly event, yes it’s a stretch but a necessity. Why not have a read below about more events.

Cuppa Love
Friday the 5th of July
Time: It starts at 10 am.
Cuppa love is a FREE coffee morning for new and expectant mothers. It’s designed to bring mums together and experience for yourselves the positive effects of love and connection in our community.
This part of an amazing global campaign that SensoBaby’s proud to be part of to promote the importance of bonding for babies, children, and parents. It’s called ‘Love Creates Love’ and is led by Blossom and Berry, the UK-based experts in baby massage.

Time Adventure Challenge
Sunday the 7th of July
Time: 8:15 am and prize giving at 12 pm
Time Adventure Challenge is one of the great events in July. It is a four-leg relay rage inside Mokolodi Nature Reserve which starts with a 10km trail run followed by a 15km mountain bike ride, then another 15km mountain bike ride and finishes with a 5km trail run. This event started this event in 2014 as a way of giving back to the community. All the participant’s entry fees are used for a charitable cause and Time Projects sponsors the costs of running the event. The 2019 event provides entertainment for the whole family.

Rainbow Play Workshop: Learn to Play the Rainbow Way!
Friday the 12th of July
Time: 9 am – 11 am
Cost: P150 members / P175 non-members
This workshop will demonstrate how to support the holistic development of your child. You will be guided through the Rainbow Play Framework, a model that was developed for Learn to Play and has gained international recognition. It is used throughout SensoBaby, Little Einsteins and Humpty Dumpty Nursery Schools.
Packed with play ideas for you to try at home, this workshop is designed to support busy parents who want to bring playfulness into their home.
The framework covers the six areas of development that pave the way for lifelong learning. Social and emotional development, fine motor, language, gross motor, cognitive skills and imagination and creativity. Find out how you can easily meet these criteria through simple play opportunities.
The best part about this workshop is the proceeds go directly to Learn to Play, an organisation bringing playgroups to marginalised groups around Botswana.

Lily’s Petting Farm
Saturday the 13th – Tuesday the 16th of July
Time: 12pm – 6pm
Oodi
Cost: P75 for kids and P50 for adults
Are you looking for something to do over the long weekend? Lily’s Petting Farm is open every day. They have a treasure hunt that happens each day at 2 pm. Bring in your own picnic and braai for free.

Wimbledon and World Cup Cricket
Sunday the 14th of July
Time: 11:30
This Sunday there looks like a great day planned at the Gaborone Golf Club.
At 11:30 they have the Cricket World Cup Final showing on the big screen inside the clubhouse.
At 14:30 they have the Wimbledon Men’s Final showing on the patio.
The Tea Hut is keeping with Wimbledon tradition. They’ll be selling delicious tea and scones. Yum! It also wouldn’t be tennis without cold Pimms. Yay!
This is a day that looks like it’s not to be missed!

Lady K. Family Fun Day And Obstacle Course
Saturday the 27th of July
Time: 10 am to 5 pm
Gaborone Cricket Grounds
The Lady K. Family Fun Day, Urban Obstacle Course & Patron’s Cup is an annual fundraising event, in its seventh year, focused on uniting family, friends and colleagues in wellness and fitness.
The event comprises of three diverse activities. The family fun activity is open to children of all ages, supervised by SUPER KIDS CAMP. Children can participate in all activities including unique inflatables, carnival games and face-painting. Adults can browse locally sourced speciality stalls, whilst testing their skills at traditional games and enjoy live music performances.
Not for the faint-hearted, the Lady K. Urban Obstacle Course encourages teamwork between four people testing physical and mental strength. Typically the obstacle course is a trail route, between 5-7km with challenges every 500m.

Table Top Sale
Saturday 27th of July
Cost: P10 entrance fee and P100 for a table
Time: 9 am to 12 pm
The HoneyComb Hub have Table top sale that happens every two months. This is a chance to buy pre-loved items and sell those things that are cluttering up your cupboards.

Play At Home: A Workshop For Nannies
Saturday the 27th of July
Cost:
P275 members / P300 non-members
This course encourages your nanny to think differently about play so that she’s motivated to lead creative, age-appropriate activities.
They’ll cover:
* The importance of play and different types
* Developmental milestones and insight into how capable your child already is
* Recipes for play and hands-on, fun-filled play stations around the home
Through open-ended games using everyday items and a little initiative from an empowered nanny, your child will flourish.
Your nanny will come away with lots of ideas while enhancing the relationship she has with your child. And parents can be confident your child is learning… even when you’re not there.
Both new and experienced nannies are welcome, so long as they have a good understanding of English as that’s how the class will be delivered. Certificates upon completion will be provided.

GGC 5km Walk, Jog, Run
Every Monday evening
Gaborone Golf Club
Time: 5 pm and it’s FREE
This event happens every week on a Monday. It’s a well organized and is a timed event. The real athletes can race off into the distance whilst others can simply walk. Kids are welcome to join in the fitness fun and lots of parents bring their strollers along. This is a great family event.

Inplay
Broadhurst
Ok, so this is not one of the events in July. However, if you’re looking for something to do with your family in July why not go to Inplay. It’s a business in the market of children entertainment. It’s an indoor playground, aiming at entertaining kids from 0 years to 14 years of age.
InPlay Botswana features a massive indoor play structure made from steel scaffolding and solid plastic construction. It also has a small trampoline area, toddler soft-play zone, arts & crafts section and restaurant.
We love popping in and having a coffee whilst our kids play. Yes, one or two articles for Botswana Family Gems has been written there.
